10 technical SEO fixes to make before you publish more content

By Toolmato Team · 8 Oct 2026 · 5 min read

Publishing new articles on a site that search engines struggle to crawl is like pouring water into a leaky bucket. Fix these ten basics first, in roughly this order.

  1. Check that your pages are indexed. In Google Search Console, open the Pages report. Important pages marked “not indexed” come first.
  2. Use one version of your domain. http, https, www and non-www should all redirect to a single address.
  3. Test on a real phone. Tiny text, overlapping buttons and horizontal scrolling all hurt rankings and sales.
  4. Compress images. Oversized images are the most common cause of slow pages. Aim for a Largest Contentful Paint under 2.5 seconds.
  5. Give every page a unique title and description. Duplicates make it harder for Google (and visitors) to tell pages apart.
  6. Fix broken links and 404 errors. Redirect old URLs to the closest live page instead of deleting them.
  7. Submit an XML sitemap. It helps Google discover new pages quickly.
  8. Add canonical tags. If similar pages exist (filters, tracking parameters), point them to the main version.
  9. Link internally. Every important page should be reachable within three clicks from the home page.
  10. Add structured data. Business, product and FAQ markup can earn richer results in search.

How to prioritise

Fix anything that blocks indexing first, then speed and mobile issues, then the polish. Re-check Search Console two weeks after each change so you can see what actually moved.

Technical SEO will not rank a weak page, but it stops a strong page from being ignored.
